So this post is for all those newly engaged brides who got proposed to over the winter holidays! If you’re thinking about getting married next year and want an excuse to throw a crazy New Years bash, here are some ideas to get you started! Hope everyone has had a lovely week off and happy 2013!!!
1. Start a bit later
Depending on the schedule of festivities, consider starting things a tad later than usual so people are still revved up and ready to celebrate post New Year’s Countdown. As the bride and groom, you will appreciate the extra time in the morning to chill out, get some extra rest and sneak in a few mimosas or bloody marys to start the day off!
2. Golden Glamour – Wear a Glittery Wedding Dress
Everyone likes to look their best on New Years – what better way to start anew than with a fabulous tuxedo-clad or glitter-tastic group of friends. Set the tone of the evening by going Black Tie or incorporating glitter into your outfit.
3. New Years Resolution Tree
Keep your guests busy with an interactive new years resolution tree. Use the same aesthetic as a wishing tree but have your friends and family write down their vows for next and hang them on a tree with ribbon.
4. Stroke of Midnight Vows
This might be a bit of overkill, but take a moment at midnight with your brand new husband and remind each other of your vows. Have a quiet place where you can disappear to for a glass of champagne to remember why you chose to spend the rest of your lives together. Then party like its 1999.
5. Midnight Outfit Change
Make midnight extra special with a surprise outfit change! Choose an extra sparkly number to up the volume of the party and dazzle your new husband with a higher hemline, perfect for dancing into the morning.
6. Incorporate the Countdown
An easy nod to the New Year’s theme and a fun typographic way to get people excited about later on is to reference the countdown. Think of ways to number things whether it’s functional like your table plan or fun like your drinks. You could even have a 10 course tasting menu!
7. DIY Noise Makers instead of confetti
Make like Martha Stewart and make your own noise makers / party blowers for your exit down the aisle! Choose papers that match your palette and put them on your guests chairs!
8. Confetti, crackers and more for your tables
Enough said. Get your glittery, gold, sparkly decor on.
9. Coffee Flavoured Drinks & Snacks
Keep your guests wide awake and ready for the countdown with a round or two of espresso martinis, irish coffees and other luxurious caffeinated beverages! I don’t think I’ve ever said no to one of these and your guests won’t either. You could even have these awesome espresso martini shots if you’re worried about spilling on your dress. Talk about efficient!
10. Big Fireworks or Little Fireworks
Fireworks are synonymous with New Years Eve and while they are somewhat over the top for a wedding, if you can’t have them for your own personal celebration, why not check out venues with a view where your guests can enjoy them anyway? Boats often have a good view of the skyline as do taller buildings. Not only will the midnight show wow your friends and family, but the view for the rest of the evening won’t be hard on the eyes either. If it doesn’t work out, you can always have a firey cake topper instead!
